Methotrexate is already processed by the liver. Alcohol is also liver-toxic. Combined, they dramatically increase the risk of serious liver damage, fibrosis, and cirrhosis, even at low doses.
How it works
Both methotrexate and alcohol independently cause hepatotoxicity. Their combination produces synergistic liver damage.
What to do: Avoid alcohol completely while taking methotrexate. Liver function tests (LFTs) should be monitored regularly.
