๐ŸŠ Grapefruit / Grapefruit Juice ⚡ Moderate

Grapefruit modestly increases amlodipine levels, potentially causing excessive blood pressure drop, dizziness, and ankle swelling.

How it works

CYP3A4 inhibition by grapefruit reduces amlodipine metabolism, increasing drug exposure.

What to do: Limit or avoid grapefruit juice while taking amlodipine. Monitor for signs of low blood pressure (dizziness, lightheadedness).

๐Ÿง‚ High-Sodium Foods (Processed Foods, Deli Meats, Canned Soups) ⚡ Moderate

High sodium intake causes water retention and raises blood pressure, directly counteracting the blood pressure-lowering effect of amlodipine and other antihypertensives.

How it works

Sodium causes the kidneys to retain water, increasing blood volume and pressure.

What to do: Follow a low-sodium diet (less than 2,300mg/day). Avoid processed foods, canned soups, deli meats, and fast food.
